Here are twenty six charming and easy traditional Irish melodies for cello. Most are the airs or melodies from songs. They are clearly presented and easy tunes for a beginner to play, whilst still being interesting for the more advanced player to enjoy. The pieces are mostly in first position only and have little ornamentation. If you are interested in an Intermediate book of tunes Trad on Cello is ideal. For Advanced players, Irish Airs for Solo Cello takes you further with extended cello techniques and full ornamentation, double stop and higher positions.
Each tune is harmonised with a second cello part so as to make it more interesting to study and perform the tunes. Both parts are generally of the same standard, not venturing too often beyond first position. The first cello always plays the melody.
