This book has been inspired by Ilse's living in Ireland, playing Irish music and working with Irish traditional musicians. The airs are solo cello pieces composed to be both true to the rich Irish musical heritage yet offer a fresh approach to create full and satisfying solo works. They are a technical challenge, with some extended techniques, and are ideally suited to a solo performance in any context, be it a classical concert, a contemporary concert or a more informal folk setting. Each air has a special feature and shows off your playing and the cello magnificently.

The left hand pizzicato, false harmonics and octaves of Buachaill ó’n Éirne, the double stops of Sally Gardens, the purity of Amhrán na Leabhar will help you develop your technical ability, especially intonation, in an enjoyable and satisfying way. The different techniques ensure that the melody is supported by an accompaniment despite it being played on only one instrument, thus adding body and colour.
