Eleanor Plunkett

A beautiful air from the blind harpist Turlough O'Carolan (1670–1738).

He travelled throughout Ireland, often commissioned to compose pieces for individuals and families. It became quite a tradition to have a tune written in your honour. O’Carolan had a remarkable way of capturing the character and spirit of each person, through his harp playing, and through the poems and verses that often accompanied his compositions.

This is a Solo Cello version PLUS cello lead sheet in G, with suggested chord shapes designed specifically for the cello. You can play along with another chordal instrument, or create your own backing.

It uses Ilse de Ziah’s Chord Grid System, which places fingerings directly onto a cello fingerboard layout, helping you learn chord changes in a musical, voice-led way.

The solo version acts as a lesson in arranging when studied with the lead sheet, and will help you arrange this in your own version, or any other tunes you are working on.
