The entire film is wonderful for several reasons: the music is beautiful and well-researched. The cellist-film producer is a very talented musician and capable of interpreting the emotional impressions she receives from the land into a musical expression that conveys the her feelings and the emotions of the land, if you will, to the viewer. The particular traditional tunes that were chosen for the film are so worth preserving. I hope they make more documentarys. Well done!

This was so extremely beautiful from the music of the old ballads, to the interviews, to the scenery. I love Irish music and never get enough of it, so this was a wonderful treat. Highly recommend this to anyone interested in Irish music and/or Irish history. Thank-you Ilse for doing this documentary!

I'm visiting Ireland soon. This video deepened my appreciation for traditional Irish music. Lovely cello, fiddle, harp, whistle, flute, vocals, piano playing....played in beautiful settings, studios, and homes. I was fascinated to be introduced to some of the musical scholars and musicians of Ireland and learn more about the history of this music. This is a first rate video, lovingly made!
A journey of music and history to reconnect us to our past

My whole family's lineage is Irish, with some parts of the family having come here generations before the famine, some due to the famine, and most recently, my grandmother emigrated in 1900, when she was just 18. This film and its ancient music awakens a spirit that has always been with me, calling to me through my ancestors' sorrows and tribulations; forced to abandon their beloved land not by choice, but for necessity for survival. The music connects me to them beyond description of words, but in a higher realization that you feel in your blood. The film is outstanding in its simplicity and honesty, bringing the viewer along the lovely lanes and ruins, respectfully playing the music that once echoed in the great Gaelic halls.
