This piece is a gem and feels exquisite to play. The poignant poem about the first days of love by Goethe was set to music by Schubert.
It is in Schubert’s original key of F minor. This presents technical challenges, due to the four flats, but is an excellent practice for working in flat keys. As it is so beautiful and mournful in this key it is encouraging to try to create the warmth and sadness inherent in F minor. It can be played very smoothly to be vocal-like.
